Kathmandu, April 23
Fuel prices have gone up once again in Nepal, adding more pressure on everyday expenses for the public. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) announced the latest price hike late Tuesday night, citing increased international market rates.
With this adjustment, the cost of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas has increased across the country. Transport operators have already warned that fares may also rise in the coming days, which could affect daily commuters the most.
Many people in Kathmandu and other cities expressed frustration, saying the repeated price increases are making it harder to manage household expenses. Small business owners are also worried about rising operational costs.
Officials, however, say the adjustment was necessary due to fluctuations in global oil prices. They added that the government is monitoring the situation and will take steps if needed to control inflation.
The price hike is expected to have a ripple effect:
Transportation costs may increaseEconomists suggest that while such adjustments are sometimes unavoidable, better long-term strategies are needed to reduce dependency on imported fuel.
The latest fuel price increase highlights the ongoing economic challenges faced by Nepal. While authorities point to global factors, the impact is being felt directly by the public.
