Reading time: 2 min2 May Kathmandu Nepal has achieved a historic feat in its tourism sector by collecting a record Rs 1.16 arba in royalty fees from 29 mountains during the ongoing spring climbing season.
The earnings were the highest from mountaineering activities in a season ever and reflected growing global interest in the हिमालय region of Nepal, the Department of Tourism said.

Mount Everest brought in the largest share of revenue of all the peaks.
- Number of climbers on Everest: 464
- Revenue from Everest alone: Rs 1.01 arba+
Mount Everest, the most sought after destination for international climbers, draws adventurers from all over the world.

Huge participation on the world stage this season:
- Climbers total: 1,050
- Countries represented: 77
The sheer number of permits issued is a testimony to Nepal’s continued dominance as one of the world’s premier mountaineering destinations.

Officials attribute the record earnings to:
- Increase in climbing permit fee
- Additional climbers
